## How to convert Volts to kilowatts?

P=The power P in kilowatts (kw)

V=the voltage V in volts (V)

I=the current I in amps (A)

**P(kW) = V(in Volts) × I(in Amps) / 1000**

So that you can define kw are equal to the voltage(V) times Current(I) in amps divided by 1000

**kilowatts = volts(V) × amps(A) / 1000**

or you can re-write this formula like that

**kW = V × A / 1000**

**Let’s take an example**

**Example#1**

Find out the power(P) in kilowatts where the current is 5A and the voltage(V)is 10V in the circuit.

P = 10V × 5A / 1000 = 0.05 kW

or

Calculate the power(P) in kw where the PF is 0.8 and the current(I) is 5A and the Root Mean Square voltage(V) in the circuit is 100V

Apply the formula for soltution

P = 0.8 × 5A × 100V / 1000 = 0.4 kW

So that you can define “kw are equal to 1.732 times PF times the Current(I) in amps times volts(V) divided by 1000

**kilowatt = 1.732 × PF × amps(A) × volt(V) / 1000**

or you can re-write this formula like that

**kW = √3 × PF × A × V / 1000**

**Let’s take an example**

**Example#3**

Find out the power(in kilowatts) where the PF is 0.8 and the current(I) is 5A and the voltage(V) in the circuit is 100V

The power P is equal to power factor of 0.8 times current of 3 amps times the voltage of 110 volts divided by 1000.

P(kW) = 1.732 × 0.8 × 5A × 100V / 1000 = 0.6928kW
