Using the below energy calculator you can easily find out the power consumption of electronic devices.

Choose device type from “Typical Appliance” list, input the power use(wattage of the device) and Number hours of use per day and click the calculate button.

This finally gives us the number of kWh (kilowatt-hours) per day, per month, per year for the selected device.

Electrical appliance:
Power Use:
Hours of use per day: h/day
Daily Energy Usage : kWh/day
Monthly Energy Usage : kWh/month
Yearly Energy Usage : kWh/year

How to calculate the power consumption of an electrical appliance?

To calculate the energy consumption of an electrical appliance in kWh, You need three-parameter.

First One –The wattage of the electrical appliance in watt(i.e the capacity of the electrical appliance)

Second One-The number of hours you use that the appliance per day.

Third One-The number of days per year(for the yearly calculation) you use when the appliance is in turn on.

Power Consumption Calculation Formula

E(kWh/day) = P(in Watts) × Time(number of usage hours per day) / 1000(W/kW)

OR

(the number of hours you use it per day) x (the number of days uses) x ([wattage of the electrical appliance in watt] / 1,000) = kWh(energy consumed by appliance)

If you want to calculate the monthly power consumption by your electrical device then the number of days use=30

The Wattage should be divided by 1,000 because electricity measured in kWh so we need to convert the watts-hour into the kilowatt-hour(watts to kilowatts). This formula finally gives you the number of kWh.

Let’s take an example ,I want to calculate the power consumption of the refrigerator at my house. The refrigerator is turn on all the time so that it uses power continuously.

Number of hours per day   –  24 hrs
Number of days per year    –  365
The wattage of the our  Refrigerator is  500 watts
Yearly power consumption of Refrigerator : 24 x 365 x (500 watts / 1,000) = 4380 kWh
Monthly power consumption of Refrigerator : 24 x 30 x (500 watts / 1,000) = 360 kWh

Important Tips to Save Energy Usage

The best way to save electricity is to avoid unnecessary use of the electrical device, switch off if you do not need it.
You can also use CFL instead of a bulb, these CFL bulbs save 70 to 80 percent of electricity.Keep the windows open during the day and so that sunlight can come to your bedroom.

  • Replace a 2-watt LED bulb instead of the 15-watt bulb in the night.
  • Replace your Tv with LCD TV plasma. LCD TV consumes less electricity than T.V.
  • Use air conditioner (A.C.) on the ideal temperature at 24-degree centigrade.
  • When your device is not in use, set them to saving power mode, like set the computer, monitors, printers, in sleep mode when you are not using it.
  • Replace the 40-watt tube by 36 watts tube light.
  • Do not dry clothes in the washing machine and dry it in the sunlight.
  • Replace your cathode ray tube monitor by LCD(liquefied crystal display) monitor.
  • Replace desktop computers with Laptops, they use less power than desktop computers, and easy to carry.
  • Use the ceiling fan more than the air conditioner.
  • Use the latest model of equipment such as tubes, freeze, washing machines, air conditioners, water pumps, geysers, fans, etc.
  • If you planning to purchase a new model then please consider the star rating, the more stars, the more power the savings will be.
  • Keep your air conditioner filter clean.
  • Set the temperature of the freeze to medium, avoid opening the freeze again and again,
  • Do not keep warm things in the freeze. I have explained to you in easy Step
