## How to convert electrical voltage in volts (V) to electric current in amps (A)?

### Volts to amps calculation In case of with watts

I=The current I in amps (A)

P=the power P in watts (W)

V=the voltage V in volts (V):

**I(A) = P(W) / V(V)**

So that you can define amps is equal to the power(p) in watts,divided by volts(V) in volts in the circuit.

**amps = watt(W) / volt(V)**

**Let’s take an example**

**Example#1**

Find out the current(I) in amps,where Power(P) is 240 watts and volts is 120(120 volts) in the circuit.

Using formula

I = 240W / 120V = 2A

## Volts to amps calculation In case of with ohms

I=The current I in amps (A)

V=the voltage V in volts (V)

R=the resistance R in ohms (Ω):

**I(A) = V(in Volts) / R(Ω)**

So that you can define amps is equal to the volts(V) divided by the R in ohms of an electric circuit.

**amps = volt(V) / ohm**

or you can re-write formula like this

**A = V / Ω**

Find out the electrical current(I),where voltage is 12 volts and R is 4 ohms in the circuit

Apply formula for the solution(12 volts to amps)

I = 12V / 4Ω = 3A
